NEW SECRET HISTORY PODCAST

THE SECRET HISTORY OF ANTARCTICA

Crowd Network’s chart-topping podcast strand returns for a third series, with The Secret History of Antarctica.

Following the success of the #1 true crime series The Secret History of Flight 149 and The Secret History of the Estonia, journalist Stephen Davis is investigating an unexplained death that occurred in one of the most isolated and deadly locations in the world. In the year 2000 a young Australian astrophysicist named Rodney Marks died in strange circumstances while conducting scientific research on Antarctica. Despite numerous inquests over the years, his tragic death remains unsolved to this day.

Stephen Davis has serious questions about why the official investigation failed to uncover the full truth. Was potentially crucial evidence destroyed? Why weren’t witnesses interviewed by the police? What happens when the potential crime scene is on a land where no country can claim jurisdiction? Could this be the first murder ever to have been committed at the South Pole? As the series unfolds, we learn startling details about the reality of life on the ice; a demanding, isolated existence which, as we discover, can drive people to do bad things. Stephen interrogates who was responsible for the failed investigation, and what – if anything – has changed in the years since the tragedy.

The Secret History of Flight 149 was nominated for an ARIA in 2023 (Best Factual Series) and won the silver ‘Spotlight’ award at the New Zealand Podcast Awards. The strand has amassed two-million downloads to date. In addition to The Secret History strand, Crowd Stories is the home of other award-winning series including American Vigilante and Murder in House Two.

Stephen Davis said: “A man died at the South Pole, at a base run by the world’s superpower, and 24 years later we still don’t know why. Like so many of my investigations, there was a small group of people determined to get to the truth and powerful corporations and governments who got in their way.”
